Did you know that Old Town Goleta has a Heritage District that is governed by its own design guidelines, separate and distinct from the rest of the City of Goleta?  Our April walking tour with local historian Fermina Murray uncovers Old Town’s fascinating array of architectural styles, which belie its seemingly modest appearance, and share stories of community heroes whose legacy continues to define the architecture and historic character of the Goleta Heritage District.  This tour offers an overview of Goleta’s history, with emphasis on the Chumash and local families who settled and developed the corridor of Hollister Avenue now known as “Old Town Goleta.”

Fermina Murray, has an impressive professional and volunteer background as a local historian.  She is currently on the Goleta Design Review Board, a Commissioner with the City of Santa Barbara’s Historic Landmarks Commission, and a co-founder of the Old Town Goleta Culture Project.  She is a registered historian with the State of California, County of Santa Barbara, and Cities of Goleta and Santa Barbara, she has maintained a home-based historical consulting business since 1995. She specializes in neighborhood histories of Goleta and Santa Barbara.
