It’s different this year, for sure, but join COAST, SBBIKE and Traffic Solutions as we still celebrate National Bike to School Day (NB2SD) on Wednesday, May 6th.  This is normally a day to bike, skate, scoot (or walk) to and from school, a benefit for kids’ and the planet’s health.  Although schools are closed amid the COVID-19 shutdown, NB2SD is STILL a great day for kids and families to get outside and ride, roll or walk in their neighborhoods!  Ride around the block, explore your neighborhood and others, or embark on a practice ride to your school.  After all, May is still National Bike Month, so let’s get out and celebrate it by riding!  COAST reminds everyone to ride in small household groups, keeping safe social distance between all riders of at least 2 bike lengths, and to always wear properly-fitted helmets!

Plan to Organize a Bike Train!  A bike train is a great way to encourage biking to and from school that can involve multiple students from many neighborhood families.  COAST’s Safe Routes to School program encouraged schools and families to set up bike trains for Bike (and Walk) to School Day.  Several schools ran with the idea and have set up bike trains to school on a regular basis.  Our partners at SBBIKE captured those bike trains on video.  Click the right-hand image to watch, learn more, and consider organizing a bike train in your neighborhood when schools reopen!
